Discover Alaska:
Spend your first day enjoying the sites and sounds of Alaska's largest city - Anchorage, before driving south to the Kenai Peninsula. Watch for Dall sheep and Beluga whales along the way.
Go by train to Whittier where we take a glacier cruise through Prince William Sound before heading to Girdwood, an Alaskan town at the foot of Mount Alyeska. While in Girdwood, take an optional helicopter excursion to a nearby glacier and actually drive your own dog team on the glacier!
Your days on the Kenai Peninsula include a full day glacier and wildlife viewing cruise from Seward through Kenai Fjords National Park and into the Gulf of Alaska. Sea Lions, otters, eagle and puffins abound (not to mention glaciers). Spend two nights in the artsy fishing town of Homer.
Optional day tours out of Homer include bear viewing in Katmai National Park.
Itinerary:
DAY 1: Arrive in Anchorage. Transfer to accommodation. The rest of the day is free to explore Alaska’s largest city.
DAY 2: Travel by train to Whittier. Continue by boat and witness the calving glaciers of Prince William Sound. Return by mini van to Girdwood and overnight.
DAY 3: Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center then travel by train to Spencer Glacier. Lunch will be served in front of the glacier before your river rafting tour. Continue by train back to Portage. Overnight in Girdwood.
DAY 4:
Optional tours:
- Fly by helicopter to the glacier and experience mushing with huskies on the glacier.
We continue to Homer with a stop to visit the Russian Orthodox Church in Ninilchick. Walk and picnic on the beach, if weather permits. 2 nights in Homer.
DAY 5:
Optional tours:
- Travel by floatplane to the coast of Katmai for bear viewing
- Kayak through Katchemak Bay
- Go fishing for halibut and salmon
DAY 6: We leave Homer and travel to Seward with a visit to Exit Glacier. Overnight 2 nights in Seward.
DAY 7: We board your tour boat for a day cruise through the Kenai Fjords and into the Gulf of Alaska. Watch for sea lion, sea otters, eagles, puffins and many other birds. A variety of whales have been seen on this trip. Overnight Seward.
DAY 8: Drive back to Anchorage. The rest of the day is free to further explore Alaska’s largest city. Overnight 2 nights in Anchorage.
DAY 9: Drive to the Matanuska Valley and on to Talkeetna, a quaint little former mining village which is now a jumping off point for Denali National Park and Mt. McKinley flight seeing tours. Flight see Mt. McKinley and land on a glacier.
DAY 10: Transfer to the airport in Anchorage for your flight home or continue with another tour.
