Arctic Circle Alaska Tour
Start this Alaskan adventure immediately after flying from Anchorage to
Kotzebue. Up arrival in Kotzebue, board an authentic bush plane
for
the flight to Kiana. From here, it’s only a one half hour river boat ride to a
beautiful lodge along the Kobuk River, approximately 30 miles north of the
Arctic Circle.
While at this gateway to Kobuk Valley National Park, see a geological relic of
the last ice age, the huge and actively moving, Great Kobuk sand dunes. Next,
visit an important early Native American archaeological site believed to show
evidence of pre-Kobuk Valley people from around
1250 A.D. This is an extremely interesting interpreted tour which demonstrates
the long history of native peoples in this area.
We then go from 1250 to 1900 and the beginning of the Nome gold rush. Our
exploration of this fascinating, historical town includes such sites as the
Train to Nowhere and the Gold Dredge.
