Gold panning and prospecting holds a special place in
the
history of Alaska that continues to this day. This tour provides the opportunity
to experience first hand, the thrill of discovering this elusive mineral.
Drive south to the small town of Hope on the Kenai Peninsula to try your hand
panning at Resurrection Pass. While on the Kenai Peninsula, consider driving to
Seward for an optional Kenai Fjords National Park glacier and wildlife viewing
tour.
Next head to Girdwood for two days of gold panning at the Crow Creek mine before
continuing north to Hatchers Pass and the Independence mine. Optional tours
include a visit to a real live Musk Ox farm or the spectacular Matanuska
glacier.
Continue to Copper River to see the historical side.
Return to Anchorage for other optional tours and for your flight back home.

Itinerary
DAY 1: Arrive in Anchorage. Transfer to rental car and hotel.
DAY 2: Drive about 2 hours to Hope on the Kenai Peninsula. Stay in
cabins. Pan for gold at Resurrection Pass.
DAY 3: Optional: Drive to Seward. Day tour by boat to the Kenai Fjords
National Park to see the glaciers and wildlife including sea lions, sea otters,
eagles, puffins and sometimes whales and dolphins.
DAY 4: Another half-day at Resurrection Pass panning for gold. Drive one
hour to Girdwood. 3 nights at the cabin.
DAYS 5 & 6: Pan for gold at the Crow Creek Mine.
DAY 7: Drive north through Anchorage and continue to Matanuska Valley. 3
nights at cabin at Hatchers Pass.
DAYS 8 & 9: Visit the Independence Mine to pan for gold. Optional: Musk
Ox Farm; Matanuska glacier viewing; hiking. Optional: Day tour to Talkeetna.
Flight over Mt.Mc Kinley.
DAYS 10 & 11: Drive to Glennallen and the Copper Center. This area has a
lot to offer regarding the history about the gold rush time. Visit the museum.
You can’t wash for gold here but there are many other things to do. Visit the
“fish wheels” on the Copper River. 2 nights in cabin near Chitina.
DAYS 12 & 13: Return to Anchorage. Optional tours available.
DAY 14: Return the car. Transfer to the airport. Flight back home or
continue with another tour. Either Nome or Skagway for more panning; or continue
on any of our other tours.
